Most people outside Nevada don't know that
Yucca Mountain is a project to build a nuclear waste repository in
Nevada. It's a very contentious issue here.
On March 13, 2005, our open-minded alumni, along with
family and friends, took a bus trip to see the project for ourselves. We
saw the huge tunnel through the mountain where, one day, low-level
nuclear waste could be buried. We listened to what the proponents
(Department of Energy scientists and engineers) had to say. It was an
informative trip. We learned a lot.
